At FosteringConnections, we believe meaningful change begins when people feel seen, heard, respected, and supported. We provide compassionate behavioral health care, specialized forensic services, addiction and substance-use support, educational programming, and community-based services for youth, adults, older adults, couples, families, professionals, and organizations throughout California.

Our work is grounded in dignity, connection, accountability, and the belief that every person has strengths and the capacity for healing, resilience, and growth. We meet clients where they are while providing structured professional support that reflects their circumstances, needs, experiences, and goals.

Our Approach

Our approach begins with understanding the whole person—not simply a diagnosis, presenting concern, behavioral history, or legal circumstance. Services are individualized and responsive to each client’s strengths, cultural background, developmental needs, lived experiences, concerns, risk and protective factors, and treatment goals.

Depending on the service and client’s needs, our work may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, strengths-based and person-centered practices, the Risk-Need-Responsivity framework, the Good Lives Model, the Containment Model, relapse-prevention planning, psychoeducation, and other evidence-informed approaches.

Our services may address:

  • Anxiety, stress, depression, grief, and emotional distress
  • Relationship and family concerns
  • Behavioral challenges and unhealthy coping patterns
  • Addiction and substance-use concerns
  • Trauma-related experiences
  • Accountability and safer decision-making
  • Dynamic risk and protective factors
  • Emotional regulation and problem-solving
  • Relapse prevention and recovery support
  • Community reintegration and supervision requirements
  • Parenting, family communication, and caregiver support
  • Prevention, early intervention, and community education

Services may include personalized, couples, family, or group counseling; teletherapy; specialized forensic assessment and treatment; pretrial consultation and support; polygraph services; addiction and substance-use education and counseling; parenting classes; suicide-prevention education; Mental Health First Aid; and substance-use and impaired-driving awareness training.

Our Core Principles

  • Individualized and Strengths-Based Support

Every client brings a unique history, set of strengths, support system, and reason for seeking or participating in services. Treatment and support are tailored to the individual rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Dignity and Respect

Every person is treated with dignity, fairness, compassion, and respect, regardless of their history, diagnosis, legal circumstances, identity, or reason for referral. Accountability and community safety can be promoted while continuing to recognize each person’s humanity and capacity for change.

  • Professional and Ethical Care

Services are delivered within the qualifications, credentials, and professional scope of the participating provider. We maintain appropriate boundaries, confidentiality practices, informed-consent procedures, documentation standards, and coordination requirements.

  • Evidence-Informed Practices

Our services incorporate established clinical frameworks, structured curricula, validated assessment instruments, and evidence-informed interventions when appropriate. Clinical judgment, client circumstances, available records, strengths, protective factors, and treatment progress are considered together when developing recommendations.

  • Developmentally Responsive Services

Our dedicated Youth Program serves adolescents ages 12–17 through a developmentally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approach. Youth services recognize the important clinical and developmental differences between adolescents and adults.

Parents, caregivers, and supportive adults may participate when clinically appropriate and authorized. Their involvement can reinforce treatment goals, strengthen communication, increase protective factors, and support progress at home, at school, and in the community.

  • Collaboration and Continuity of Care

With appropriate authorization, FosteringConnections works collaboratively with families, caregivers, attorneys, courts, probation and parole departments, correctional agencies, CPS, child welfare agencies, schools, behavioral health providers, polygraph examiners, and other community partners.

Communication and information sharing occur within applicable confidentiality requirements, legal mandates, professional standards, and court or supervision directives.

  • Accessible and Responsive Services

Services are available throughout California in English and Spanish. In-person and secure telehealth options are offered based on the nature of the service, clinical appropriateness, client circumstances, and program requirements.

Flexible scheduling is offered whenever possible to reduce barriers and help clients remain engaged in services.

  • Commitment to Our Communities

Our providers live and work in the communities we serve. We are invested in supporting healthier individuals, stronger families, successful recovery, responsible decision-making, and safer communities throughout California.

A Sliding Fee Discount Program is available to eligible clients based on demonstrated financial need. Eligibility requirements, available discounts, and program limitations may apply.

Specialized Professional Experience

FosteringConnections is a California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB)-certified program providing specialized forensic treatment and rehabilitation services for youth and adults. Services are designed to promote accountability, reduce risk, strengthen healthy decision-making, support successful community reintegration, and contribute to community safety.

Our professional qualifications also include Licensed Clinical Social Work and credentialing through the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs. Addiction and substance-use services are provided within the participating professional’s lawful scope and FosteringConnections’ currently available programming. When a client requires detoxification, residential treatment, Medication for Addiction Treatment, or another level of care outside our scope, we assist with referrals to appropriately licensed or DHCS-certified providers.

Your Role as a Participant

Meaningful progress is supported by collaboration between the client and provider. Active participation does not mean handling challenges alone. It means working with your provider, asking questions, sharing relevant information, and practicing skills as you move toward your goals.

  • Share Relevant Information

Open and honest communication helps your provider understand your concerns, experiences, strengths, circumstances, and support needs. Share information that may affect your care, safety, treatment goals, or ability to participate.

  • Identify Meaningful Goals

Consider what you hope to understand, change, strengthen, or accomplish through services. Goals may involve emotional well-being, coping skills, relationships, family communication, recovery, accountability, safer decision-making, or another important area of your life.

  • Participate Actively

Ask questions, discuss concerns, complete therapeutic activities, and provide feedback. Your perspective is an important part of developing a service plan that remains relevant and responsive to your needs.

  • Practice Skills Between Sessions

Progress often continues outside scheduled appointments. You may be encouraged to practice coping strategies, communication skills, emotional-regulation techniques, safety plans, recovery tools, or other strategies discussed during sessions.

  • Attend Scheduled Services

Consistent attendance supports continuity, trust, and progress. If circumstances affect your ability to attend, notify our team as early as possible so available options and appropriate next steps can be discussed.

  • Communicate Important Changes

Let your provider know about significant changes in your symptoms, safety, medication, substance use, relationships, housing, legal circumstances, supervision requirements, or support system when those changes may affect your care.

  • Respect Privacy and Boundaries

Maintain respectful communication and appropriate boundaries throughout the service process. Group and family participants are expected to respect the privacy, experiences, and perspectives of others.

  • Provide Feedback

Tell us what is helpful, what remains unclear, and what may need additional attention. Questions, concerns, and feedback are welcomed and can help keep services responsive to your needs and goals.

  • Follow Applicable Program Requirements

Clients participating in court-ordered, supervision-related, specialized forensic, group, or educational services may have additional attendance, participation, documentation, safety, or communication requirements. These expectations will be reviewed as part of the service process.
