Our Approach

Our approach focuses on understanding the whole person—not simply a diagnosis, presenting concern, behavioral history, or legal circumstance. Services are individualized according to each client’s experiences, strengths, needs, cultural background, developmental level, support system, and goals.

Support may address anxiety, stress, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, family conflict, behavioral challenges, substance use, trauma-related concerns, accountability, safer decision-making, and other emotional or behavioral health needs.

FosteringConnections is a California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB)-certified program providing specialized forensic treatment and rehabilitation for youth and adults.

Our core principles include:

• Individualized Support: Services are tailored to each client’s circumstances, strengths, needs, and goals rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
• Dignity and Respect: Every youth and adult is treated with compassion, fairness, sensitivity, and respect, regardless of their history or reason for referral.
• Professional and Ethical Care: Services are provided within applicable professional qualifications, ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and informed-consent practices.
• Evidence-Informed Services: Established clinical frameworks, structured curricula, and validated assessment instruments may be used when appropriate.
• Developmentally Responsive Care: Our dedicated Youth Program for adolescents ages 12–17 recognizes the important developmental and clinical differences between youth and adults.
• Family and Community Collaboration: Parents, caregivers, courts, attorneys, probation, parole, CPS, schools, and other authorized professionals may be involved when appropriate.
• Accessible Service Delivery: Services are available throughout California in English and Spanish through in-person and secure telehealth options.
• Community Commitment: We work to strengthen individuals and families, promote accountability and recovery, and contribute to healthier and safer communities.

Your Role as a Participant

Progress is supported by collaboration between you and your provider. Active participation does not mean managing challenges alone. It means working alongside your provider, asking questions, sharing relevant information, and practicing skills as you move toward your goals.

1. Share Relevant Information

   Open and honest communication helps your provider understand your concerns, experiences, strengths, circumstances, and support needs. Share information that may affect your care, safety, goals, or ability to participate.

2. Identify Meaningful Goals

   Consider what you would like to understand, change, strengthen, or accomplish. Goals may involve emotional well-being, coping skills, relationships, recovery, accountability, family communication, or safer decision-making.

3. Participate During Sessions

   Ask questions, discuss concerns, complete therapeutic activities, and provide feedback. Your perspective helps ensure services remain focused on what is meaningful and relevant to you.

4. Practice Skills Between Sessions

   You may be encouraged to practice coping strategies, communication skills, emotional-regulation techniques, safety plans, recovery tools, or other strategies discussed during sessions.

5. Attend Scheduled Services

   Consistent attendance supports continuity, trust, and progress. If circumstances affect your ability to attend, contact our team as early as possible to discuss available options and appropriate next steps.

6. Communicate Important Changes

   Let your provider know about significant changes in your symptoms, safety, medications, substance use, relationships, housing, legal circumstances, supervision requirements, or support system when they may affect your care.

7. Provide Feedback

   Tell us what is helpful, what remains unclear, and what may require additional attention. Questions and concerns are welcomed throughout the service process.

8. Respect Privacy and Boundaries

   Maintain respectful communication and appropriate boundaries. Clients participating in family or group services are expected to respect the privacy, experiences, and perspectives of others.

9. Follow Applicable Program Requirements

   Court-ordered, supervision-related, specialized forensic, group, or educational services may include additional attendance, participation, documentation, safety, or communication expectations. These requirements will be reviewed with you.

Taking an active role does not mean facing concerns independently. FosteringConnections provides a structured and supportive environment where clients can explore challenges, recognize strengths, develop practical skills, and work toward meaningful goals with professional guidance.
